What the National Scholarship Programme covers
Slovakia’s National Scholarship Programme (NSP) supports academic mobility: eligible international students, PhD students, university teachers, researchers and artists can apply for a temporary stay at a Slovak host institution. It is not a general scholarship for an entire English-language medicine, dentistry or pharmacy degree.
The official SAIA programme page explains who qualifies, which documents are required and the current scholarship amounts. Check its rules for your applicant category before spending time on an application. Funding is competitive and is not guaranteed to cover all living or travel costs.
Deadlines and application
SAIA lists regular calls with deadlines on 30 April for stays in the following academic year and 31 October for stays in the summer semester of the current academic year. Check the live call and time zone on the official page; applications are made through SAIA’s own system. The April 2026 deadline has passed. As of September 2026, the next listed regular deadline is 31 October 2026, subject to SAIA’s current call.
Applicants generally need a plan for their stay and confirmation from a Slovak host. Document lists differ for students, doctoral candidates and researchers. SAIA evaluates the scholarship application; the host institution and, where applicable, the university separately decide any admission or hosting matters.
Medicine, dentistry and pharmacy applicants
If you intend to enrol for a complete degree, ask the faculty about its own scholarship and tuition arrangements. Do not assume the NSP will fund your full degree. You can also ask SAIA whether a particular exchange or research stay fits its mobility rules.
Visa and residence requirements depend on citizenship and the planned stay. This article is general information only. Confirm exact requirements with your university and the Slovak embassy responsible for your country.
