Prepare for everyday life
Moving for university means learning a new city, health system and set of local contacts. No place is risk-free, and broad country rankings cannot predict an individual student’s experience. A few practical steps are more useful than a promise that every situation will be safe.
- Save the university’s emergency and student-support contacts and the address of your accommodation.
- Learn the route home, especially for late classes or clinical shifts.
- Read your housing agreement and know whom to contact about repairs or access.
- Keep copies of important documents securely and know how to reach your embassy.
- Ask your university how to report harassment, discrimination or a safety concern.
Health and emergencies
Ask the university and your insurer what care is covered, which providers you can visit and what to do outside clinic hours. Coverage and payment terms vary; do not assume every treatment is free. In a serious emergency in Slovakia, the EU emergency number is 112.
Support on campus
International offices, student associations and faculty advisers can help you understand campus procedures and connect with other students. If you plan to study medicine, dentistry or pharmacy, ask about clinical-placement safety rules and supervision.
