Do you need a local account?
A bank account can make rent, everyday payments and salary deposits easier during your studies in Slovakia. A Slovak account may be convenient, but do not assume it is legally required for every student or that a particular bank statement will satisfy an immigration authority. Ask the organisation requesting proof what it accepts.
Compare the terms yourself
Before opening an account, compare monthly charges, card and cash withdrawal fees, international transfers, language support and the documents required from foreign students. Student offers and age limits change. Read the bank’s current tariff and account agreement before signing. Tatra banka and VÚB are two possible providers, but this article is not a recommendation of either.
Contact your chosen bank to ask whether you can apply online or need a branch visit, what identity and student-status documents it accepts, and whether a residence card is necessary for your circumstances. Make sure you understand the fees and any conditions for a free account.
Financial documents for residence
Requirements for proving financial means depend on the residence route and current rules. Consult the IOM Migration Information Centre and the competent authority, rather than opening a bank account solely on the basis of an old article.
